PhD StudentshipS in Hair Research

The University of British Columbia (UBC) Department of Dermatology
and Skin Science, invites applications for a full time Ph.D.
student scholarship in the Department’s Hair Research Laboratory
program. Research will involve human
and model studies of hair follicle immune privilege, hair
follicle function, targeting of hair follicles
in inflammatory hair loss diseases, and skin cancer.
The successful candidate will have a Master’s (M.Sc.)
degree, or equivalent in a life sciences subject in the fields
of (but not limited to) immunology, biology, biochemistry,
or zoology. Note: It is possible for a student with a BSc degree
to enter directly into the PhD program if they have outstanding
grades. However, more typically, students enter the MSc program
and then switch to the PhD program after one year.
The
successful
candidate will be self motivated, enthusiastic, and adaptable
with good oral and written communication skills. Experience
with animal models, cell culture techniques, quantitative PCR,
or
immunohistochemistry will be an advantage. The applicant must
also meet the general requirements of the Experimental Medicine
Program and UBC faculty of Graduate studies.
This student scholarship is for up to two years in the first
instance consistent with Canadian Ph.D. student fellowship grants
and UBC guidelines.

for details. Grant applications to other grant awarding bodies,
including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and
the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) will
also be encouraged.
