HAIR RESEARCH Laboratory Summer Students
Henry (Li-Hao) Chen
Henry was a science student who completed a summer
student laboratory research investigation in 2009. Henry studied
chemokine gene expression in basal cell carcinomas and other
non-melanoma skin cancers using quantitative PCR techniques.
Henry was looking for similarities and differences in the patterns
of chemokine epxression between different skin cancers.
Jessica Shapiro
Jessica was a science student who completed a summer
student laboratory research investigation in 2009. Jessica studied
gene product expression in two forms of scarring alopecia; lichen
planopilaris and pseudopelade of Brocq. techniques. Jessica used
immunohistological techniques to look for differences in the
expression and distribution of selected gene products.
Jellena Wong
Jellena was a first year medical student who completed a summer
student laboratory research investigation in 2009. Jellena studied
gene product expression in basal cell carcinomas using quantitative
PCR techniques. Jellena used
immunohistological techniques to look for differences in the
expression and distribution of selected gene products.
NAVKIRAN SIDHU
Nav was a first year medical student who completed a summer
student laboratory research investigation in 2008. Nav studied
gene expression in basal cell carcinomas and compared them to
hair follicles using quantitative PCR techniques.
KATY CHONG
Katy was a second year sicence student who completed a summer
student laboratory research investigation in 2008. Katy studied
gene expression in alopecia areata affected tissues and compared
them to healthy tissues using quantitative PCR methods.
SAM MA
Sam was a fourth year cell biology student who completed a summer
student laboratory research investigation in 2008. Sam studied
expression
of gene products in basal cell carcinomas and compared them to
hair follicles using immunohistochemistry techniques.
megan isaac-renton
Megan was a first year medical student who completed a summer
student laboratory research investigation in 2007. Megan studied
the expression of genes in scarring alopecias lichen planopilaris
and pseudopelade of Brocq.
