HAIR RESEARCH LABORATORY ALUMNI

The hair research laboratory at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute was launched in March 2004. Over the years the laboratory has been host to many postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, graduate research students, and volunteers. Here we honor their roles in the development of this laboratory and the research they conducted.

GRADUATE STUDENT ALUMNI

The hair laboratory at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute is part of the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Experimental Medicine Program. Graduate students enroll in the UBC MSc or PhD program and conduct research in the hair laboratory. Research projects are focused on the many different aspects of skin appendages including hair growth biology, hair diseases mechanisms, tissue regeneration, and skin cancer.

CLINICAL HAIR FELLOW ALUMNI

Each year there are at least two clinical hair fellows who come to the hair laboratory and clinic to learn new clinical techniques. The hair fellows conduct research in the clinic and the laboratory on mechanisms of disease development and disease treatments.

SUMMER STUDENT ALUMNI

Each summer science students and medical students conduct summer research projects in the laboratory. Many students are from the University of British Columbia, but the hair laboratory also accepts summer students from other universities. The laboratory plans a small project as part of the larger research objectives in the laboratory. Summer students are acknowledged as co-authors on at least one research publication that includes their research data.

VOLUNTEER ALUMNI

Sometimes people volunteer in the laboratory to gain research experience and to learn new techniques. They often support the research conducted by fellows or graduate students in the laboratory. Volunteers are acknowledged as co-authors on the research publications they contribute to.
